Who would know that, many years after that microhouse, minimal, glitchy pop and folktronica, music reviewers, the ones that set up the canon, would refer to that period as overambitious and pedantic. To me it's depressing, because not only it was the time that I massively discovered music, but these sounds coming from everywhere sounded like the future: glitches, noise, experimentation, and melody. Sensitive people going one step more forward to keep away from the comfort zone.

This was the most popular album from Schneider TM that went with me in loads of lonely nights, me being the only one of my friends that liked this music, that found it deeply emotional. Guitars, electro nods, vocoders, intricate rhythm programming, even baroque in its overlapping of everything, something too weird for the indie folks nowadays and too poppy for the idm crowd than then it was allowed to live and express itself. From the 7/8 kind of samba ballad "Reality Check", the Mouse on Mars tune "Hunger", the shoegazy "999"... it's a child of its time, but it still makes me feel like there is a huge world out there.
